Volume Converter

How does the volume converter work?

The volume converter is used to convert different units of measurement for volume. Select the original unit or "from unit" (examples: milliliters, liters, cubic inches, cubic feet, ounces), and more. Next, enter the numeric "value" of volume, then select the unit of measurement you would like the outcome to be "to unit" and click the "convert" button.

Why use the volume converter

The volume converter is a useful tool that can be applied for numerous cases, for example when traveling to and from different regions of the world where one may still be using the imperial system of measurements and another using the metric system! Often when in the kitchen volume conversions are necessary to ensure a properly made tasty recipe! Don't get fooled again know exactly how much of something you are adding to your food, the volume converter has got you covered!

A Brief History of the Imperial System of Measurements

In 1824, the Weights and Measures Act was pioneered by Great Britain, marking the beginning of the official British imperial system. This system lasted for 4 decades ending in 1864 when the metric system was adopted in Great Britain. Today the United States of America still uses the imperial system of measurements as well as a few other notable countries. Although some countries around the world still use the imperial system, all objects that were made to define certain units of measurement are only made using the metric system, sometimes referred to as the "roundest object in the world" and then are transferred to imperial via their respective mathematical relations.

Input fields explained

Before using the volume converter, it may help to understand each input field.

  • From unit:

Select the unit of measurement you are using and would like converted (examples: milliliters, liters, cubic inches, cubic feet, ounces).
  • Value:

Enter the numeric value of your measurement.
  • To unit:

Choose the unit of measurement you wish to be converted into.

Understanding the results

Below is a helpful example and demonstration of how the volume converter functions.

Example: you have a volume of 5,000 milliliters (ml) and need it converted to liters (L), select milliliters in the "from unit" input field, enter 5,000 in the "value" field then choose liters (L) in the "To unit" field, and finally click the "convert" button!

To go from ml to L, divide the volume value by 1000

2,500 ml / 1,000
= 2.5 L

To go from L to ml, multiply the volume value by 1000

1.5 L X 1,000
= 1,500 ml

To go from ml to Ounces (Oz), divide the volume value by 29.574

375 ml / 29.574
= 12.68 Oz

To go from Oz to ml, multiply the volume value by 29.574

8 Oz X 29.574
= 236.5 ml

Once all the input fields have been entered and "convert" has been clicked, the volume converter will provide an answer. The unit of measurement originally used "from unit" will be converted to the "to unit" you have selected.
